WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR CHILD IS A VICTIM OF A PHARMACY ERROR

When a child is the victim of a pharmacy error, it can be a traumatic and stressful experience for both the child and the parents. Pharmacy errors can lead to serious health complications, and it is important to take action quickly and appropriately to ensure the safety and well-being of your child. Here are some tips on what to do when your child is a victim of a pharmacy error.

  1. Seek Medical Attention: The first step is to seek immediate medical attention. The pharmacy error may have caused harm to your child, and it is important to rule out any potential medical issues. Your child’s doctor can assess the situation and provide advice on the best course of action.
  1. Document the Error: It is important to document the pharmacy error as soon as possible. Make sure to write down the date, time, and details of the error. This will be important evidence if you decide to pursue legal action.
  1. Contact the Pharmacy: You should contact the pharmacy where the error occurred as soon as possible. Explain the situation and express your concerns. The pharmacy may be willing to offer a refund or provide a replacement medication.
  1. Contact an Attorney: If the pharmacy is unwilling to provide a refund or replacement medication, you may need to contact an attorney. A lawyer can help you determine the best course of action and may be able to get you compensation for any medical bills or pain and suffering your child has experienced due to the pharmacy error.
  1. Report the Error: You should also consider filing a report with the state Board of Pharmacy. This will help alert other pharmacists to the error and can prevent it from happening to someone else in the future.

By following these steps, you can help ensure your child’s safety and take appropriate action in the event of a pharmacy error. It is important to remember that you have rights, and you should not be afraid to speak up for your child.
