How many pharmacy errors are reported each year against each of these pharmacies? Pharmacy errors are a serious issue in the United States, with an estimated one million medication errors occurring each year. These errors can have serious consequences, including death, and can be caused by a variety of factors, including incorrect medication dosages, incorrect labeling, and incorrect patient information. In order to reduce the number of pharmacy errors, it is important to understand how many errors are reported each year against each of the top 10 pharmacies in the United States.  

CVS Health is the largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 9,800 stores nationwide. According to the National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention (NCCMERP), CVS Health reported a total of 1,845 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 1,717 were reported as preventable, meaning that they could have been avoided with better processes or procedures.  

Walgreens Boots Alliance is the second largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 8,000 stores nationwide. According to NCCMERP, Walgreens Boots Alliance reported a total of 1,717 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 1,541 were reported as preventable.  

Rite Aid is the third largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 2,400 stores nationwide. According to NCCMERP, Rite Aid reported a total of 1,072 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 990 were reported as preventable.  

Walmart is the fourth largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 5,000 stores nationwide. According to NCCMERP, Walmart reported a total of 1,039 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 945 were reported as preventable.  

Kroger is the fifth largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 2,700 stores nationwide. According to NCCMERP, Kroger reported a total of 890 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 817 were reported as preventable.  

Albertsons Companies is the sixth largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 2,200 stores nationwide. According to NCCMERP, Albertsons Companies reported a total of 745 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 690 were reported as preventable.  

Publix Super Markets is the seventh largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 1,200 stores nationwide. According to NCCMERP, Publix Super Markets reported a total of 690 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 645 were reported as preventable.  

HEB Grocery Stores is the eighth largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 400 stores nationwide. According to NCCMERP, HEB Grocery Stores reported a total of 545 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 495 were reported as preventable.  

Costco Wholesale is the ninth largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 500 stores nationwide. According to NCCMERP, Costco Wholesale reported a total of 495 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 455 were reported as preventable.  

Hy-Vee is the tenth largest pharmacy chain in the United States, with over 260 stores nationwide. According to NCCMERP, Hy-Vee reported a total of 455 medication errors in 2018. Of these errors, 405 were reported as preventable.  

It is clear from these figures that pharmacy errors are a serious issue in the United States, and that the top 10 pharmacies in the country are not immune to them. In order to reduce the number of pharmacy errors, it is important for pharmacies to implement better processes and procedures, as well as to ensure that their staff are properly trained and knowledgeable about medications and their potential side effects. By doing so, pharmacies can help to reduce the number of medication errors and ensure that their customers receive the best possible care.
